We are now finishing up our third week of Grade 1! Time is flying! The children are doing a phenomenal job learning and adapting to new procedures, safety rules and routines. This week we learned about and practiced "socially distanced" fire drills. In language we are focussing on reviewing letters, letter sounds and blending the sounds we know to read early reader books together. We are practicing proper letter formation and learning how to stretch out words and write the sounds we hear. In math, we continued to work on counting forwards by 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s to 100. We worked on counting backwards from 20 by 1s, 2s and 5s. We are using the hundred chart and number lines and number paths to help us see the patterns and say the numbers. We are also practicing ordinal numbers daily when doing our calendar. We are working on representing numbers in different ways using ten frames, tallies, numerals, fingers, pictures, etc. In science we started to discuss what happens in the fall. In religion and media literacy, we have been working on the Good Samaritans on the Digital road. We have been focusing on how to stay safe when using technology and how to be a good citizen in an online community.
