We finally had some nice spring weather! The children and I loved getting outdoors and enjoying it.
This week we focussed a lot in language and science on animals. We learned how to make a brainstorm web about our favourite animal and then worked on putting our ideas into sentences. We read a book about insects and learned new facts. We learned how labels on a picture help the reader understand a text. We also had a virtual presentation by Little Rays Reptiles where we learned many new and interesting facts! Ask your child to share some of the new facts we learned this week. We also continued to listen to the Blue Spruce nominee books.
In math, we focused on measuring area, mass and capacity and reinforcing our understanding of doubles facts. We are learning how to use known doubles facts to help us mentally add numbers. For example - If I know 3 + 3 = 6; then I can notice that 3 + 4 = 3 + 3 + 1 more; so 3 + 4 = 6 + 1 = 7. We will continue to work on reinforcing our doubles facts as well as practicing adding and subtracting doubles plus and minus one and two.
We are continuing to learn about our Lenten journey and we are working on doing good deeds at home and at school each day.
In Health we are learning about Healthy Habits. We are learning about healthy eating using My Plate portions. We are learning about the food groups and why eating healthy foods is important for our body and growth. We are also learning how aerobic and anaerobic exercise helps our muscles and body stay strong and healthy. With the beautiful weather this week we engaged in outdoor fitness. We dug out the skipping ropes and learned and practised how to jump rope. This is a great spring activity to improve your child's fitness at home.
