We had another fun week in grade one! The children are adjusting well to being back to school. We are getting back into the groove and routine. This week we worked on Valentine's Day activities during language, math and daily physical activity time. This week we worked on "y" as a vowel and the "le" sound in our reading activities. Being back in person allowed us to work on some targeted writing goals. We spent time sounding out words (using our knowledge of phonics rules), writing sentences (focussing on improving our work using individual goals - finger spacing, letter reversals, proper use of uppercase letters, proper punctuation, using known words to help spell unknown words - make/cake, etc.) and we tried to write at least three sentences on a given topic (something we did on the weekend). In math we started to work on collecting, sorting and organizing data. We are making rules for sorting objects. We are collecting data and we are using tally marks to record results. I continued individual assessments (math and language) with the children to figure out our next steps are going to be.
I hope you and your family are able to have a very relaxing and fun Valentine's Day and Family Day Weekend! I look forward to hearing all about it on Tuesday.
